Flames Sports is excited to announce two additions to our Board of Directors as we continue building for the future of our baseball and softball programs.

Jake Cartwright has been named our new Director of Baseball, taking over the position previously held by Scot Wheelock, while Gene Kramer joins the Board as our new Director of Facilities.

Both Jake and Gene bring years of experience, a passion for developing young athletes, and a strong commitment to the mission and future of Flames Sports.

Jake Cartwright — Director of Baseball

Jake Cartwright brings more than 21 years of youth coaching experience across baseball, softball, and football, giving him a well-rounded perspective on athlete development, team culture, and leadership.

Jake has been part of the Flames organization for six years, including four years coaching Flames baseball, and currently serves as the head coach of our 16U baseball team.

In 2023, Jake was honored as the recipient of the Andy Saldivar Coach of the Year Award, recognizing his dedication to his players and his willingness to consistently go above and beyond for the athletes and families he serves.

For Jake, coaching has always been about much more than wins and losses. He is passionate about helping young athletes reach their potential while developing the character, accountability, teamwork, discipline, and confidence that will serve them long after their playing days are over.

Jake believes in creating a competitive environment where athletes are challenged to work hard, improve, and strive for success while never losing sight of why they started playing in the first place. The game should still be fun, friendships should be built, and players should leave with memories and relationships that last well beyond a season.

That relationship-driven approach has become a defining part of Jake's coaching career. Many of his former players remain part of his life today, reflecting the genuine connections he builds with athletes and their families.

Outside of baseball, Jake enjoys powerlifting and brings many of the same principles to coaching: discipline, perseverance, consistency, and continuous improvement.

As Director of Baseball, Jake will help lead the continued development of Flames Baseball, supporting our coaches and teams while helping ensure our program continues providing athletes with opportunities to grow both as players and as people.

We also want to thank Scot Wheelock for his time, leadership, and service as Director of Baseball and for everything he has contributed to Flames Sports.

Gene Kramer — Director of Facilities

Flames Sports is also excited to welcome Gene Kramer to our Board of Directors as our new Director of Facilities.

In this role, Gene will oversee the Flames facility, equipment, and surrounding grounds, helping ensure that our home remains safe, organized, efficient, and an effective environment for our players, coaches, families, and organizational activities.

Gene's passion for the game spans more than 25 years, including 12 years as a player and 15 years as a coach.

Through those experiences, Gene has developed a deep appreciation for the impact baseball and softball can have on young athletes. He understands that the lessons learned through sports go far beyond developing physical skills. The game provides opportunities to teach teamwork, discipline, perseverance, responsibility, and character.

As Director of Facilities, Gene takes great pride in helping create a home that Flames players, coaches, and families can be proud of. He is committed to maintaining and improving an environment where our athletes have the resources and space they need to learn, compete, develop, and grow.

With our training facility continuing to play an increasingly important role in the Flames experience, Gene's leadership will help us maximize what the facility can provide for our teams today while continuing to improve it for the future.

Continuing to Build the Future of Flames

Flames Sports has always been about more than baseball and softball. Our goal is to use the games we love to positively impact young athletes, develop strong character, create lasting relationships, and provide experiences our players and families will remember for years to come.

Strong leadership is an important part of making that possible.

We're excited to have Jake and Gene join our Board of Directors and look forward to the experience, energy, and passion they will bring to their new roles.

Please join us in congratulating Jake Cartwright, Director of Baseball, and Gene Kramer, Director of Facilities, and welcoming them to the Flames Sports Board of Directors!

Fuel the Fire. 🔥
